In a style that is part Kurt Vonnegut, part Aldous Huxley, and also very much his own, Axol O’Lerpler employs biting satire to humorously portray a society whose laws and customs are entirely free from religious morality. Great New World is written from the perspective of wide-eyed secondary school student Axol O’Lerpler, who, fleeing from angry, meth-snorting, masturbating upperclassmen, falls by accident into a great new world. There, he meets his mentor, Steve Partridge, becomes gainfully employed in a Fetus Factory, develops a close friendship with the great, great, great, great grandson of failed playwright William Shakeshaft, and has lots of sex with his sort-of-wife, Olivia Wild. Finding himself in a society that is unencumbered by "out-dated" values, Axol experiences a secular/spiritual awakening, a very good time, then loss, more loss still, and finally, the ultimate loss.

A thoroughly hilarious book (it really should be called a novel) that still makes you think about the state of today's society. Axol's 102% true story is both funny and thought provoking, and (in case I hadn't made it clear already) this really is an entertaining tale with a remarkable tendency to cause reflection on our own Great World (I left out the other word in the title because our world is hardly fit for the adjective "New"). O'Lerpler's fanciful satire is a perfect read if you're looking to have a laugh or if you're looking for a fresh view on an old topic in order to bring up conversation at a stale dinner party or an even more stale Philosophy Club meeting (though O'Lerpler would be adamantly against going to any sort of function that had anything to do with the idea of Philosophy (really now, whats wrong with you? Don't waste your time with that garbage)).In all seriousness, this is a humorous book, but it really does make you stop and think about what's going on in today's world. It is very well written and talks about a very serious point. However, it is heavily stylized and absolutely satirical in nature. If you're looking for a book written in the same style as your old college textbooks, you would probably do better looking somewhere else.

Great New World edition by Axol O'Lerpler Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
A very funny satire of our culture. At times reminiscent of Kurt Vonnegut, O'Lerpler has a way of describing the world in a way that makes the reader reconsider how they view the human person. The only criticism I have is that the self-aware nature of the narrative at times takes away from the flow of the story. That being said, the self aware parenthetical expressions are some of the funniest pieces of the story. I just think that if they were used a bit more sparingly it wouldn't have been a distraction.
